Collecting plastic has been a topic of conversation for me for a long time now, It all started because of the game we call golf, ( Disc Golf ) like Dr. Stancil says " There could be a better name " I realise that almost everything I do, it is for life, my relationship with my wife Lisa is first on that list! I was out last weekend snowboarding with my kids & my grandkids, very cool to share board sports with them all, skate, wake & snow, never did get the hang of surfing but I love me boogie boarding, my wave baby! Music has been a big part of my life there last 10 years, playing a new years eve gig is every musicians goal, well tomorrow I get to do that! For those that don't know I am building a music recording studio, should be up & going late spring, I plan on modeling my space after the all inclusive family love I have felt with my frisbee family, come one come all, lets make some music. I must admit it should be a little more easy, a day in the studio compared to a day on the hill! Put your glove on!

Seems people avoid the rain, In Northern California with no rain of over 6 months & the fire danger going into November you still get people that think " can't wait till spring"! I like being in the rain! Good thing because our local after Thanksgiving tournament was a wet one. My doubles partner is my boy Ryan # 19457, we played well in the rain & were leading the 36 hole one day event until the 3rd to last hole. The wind took its toll, we both threw out of bounds off the tee & on our upshot on that second island hole for a 7PP, that was just enough to drop us to 3rd at the end of the day, lesson learned, I need a gator in my bag! Funny thing was we missed all the short easy holes but made some killer shots on some long ones, should have would have, if it's raining..... see you on the course! Where the new collectors are. Its not Ebay, Face book has a great scene, it is awesome to chat with Disc Golf collectors on Facebook about the history of the sport & cool discs that were used way back, The Pluto was a Wham-o seller between 1957-1965. Important stuff if you ask me, I am a Disc Golfer through & through but there is so much more to collecting flying discs than just Golf Discs. I would guess there are other social media places to get plastic but it is hot on Facebook, try a auction, find others that only collect your favorite brand. I have this one up for sale & the action is fast as well as the info shared! All good stuff cause I got a mint in this old stuff!
I must admit I have been slowing down on collecting plastic but at the same time I feel like I have a good feel for what is out there. Then a disc comes along that I had no idea about, that is the case with this Tee-Rexx X, a prototype. I had not got anything for some time but when I found this, I had to have it! So even with all my discs there is always a surprise around the corner & I guess that is what keeps me interested after all these years! The connections are a big part of it too, I can not make the collector convention this year but I hope to next year. So keep turning over stones, there are gems out there! Chatting with my old pal Lightnin Lyle he told me his DR. said " Disc Golf is not a workout" Well I guess it is how you go about playing because if you speed up play you get your heart rate up. To me getting your heart rate up is the deffinition of exercise. Yes plenty of courses are short & flat but even there you should be able to get the job done. I know for a fact that when you play my home course no matter how you go about it, calories get burned, from the almost 10 min walk just to get to the first tee to all the up & down hills, not to mention chasing after your disc after one of the legendary roll aways! Lyle you get your Doc out here for a different point of view! I played some golf in a new state last month, I got out to North Carolina & played 2 new courses! If I am keeping tract correct I think that is 33 states I have played at least 1 course in! Here I am at Pier Park north of Portland, the best new course I played was Evergreen in Olympia Wa, it was super green had some long holes & I played with some cool heads! So it has been a good minute! I have found out that new updates on a old computer equals disaster. I do not have a solution for pictures as of yet & have a bunch to add, guess it will need to happen on the lap top!
The Vintage Cup celebrated its 25th year a few weeks back, I was there for all of them, not counting when we did 2 weekends a few times, I just played my division weekend. It was great fun & the club is a big reason why it is such a great event, thank guys! The latest additions to the collection come from many friends helping keeping me up to date on the latest golf discs, nothing really good has been added in the old plastic arena! The foundation on the barn is in, this will be the location of the collection sometime by the end of this year. Went Heli Boarding & that was a blast! Have a CT scan later this week, guess that will be a blast too! Collector convention is in the works, if all goes well it will be at the Disc Golf Center during the Hall of Fame inductions, hope to see you there! Chow for now! |
