Ryan & I are getting around, Last weekend we were in Southern California & played a new course in Murrieta, & as always we meet local folks that are cool! Here we have Jayson Young, Ryan, Matt Stilinovich & myself, the weather was super hot, we got in a round starting at 7am. My putting is strong as far as I hit the what I call garage putts, in a 2 car garage you should be making 100% & on the course there are short putts that were testers for me this last year, changing my putter but more important, I got out of my head & just played. Feels good! Now if I can just keep it going into the fall & winter, my game struggles in the winter, but now, I am flying high! Looking to play the local weekly at the home course this week.
Playing the game & feeling the love, got to play a few courses in Montana ( that makes 30 states I have played disc golf in! ) Nice turn out of 23 platers in Big Sky. Ryan Tyler Jason & me on the 3rd tee box. Everyone we talked to made us feel welcome, just a reoccurring theme with the Frisbee family!
As I spend more time with my music endeavors I am drawn away from my collection obsession, It will me nice to consolidate all my plastic & music at one space once we get the barn built, ground breaking could be just 2 weeks away, here I hope to entertain my music & frisbee family. Here Zakk Wylde trys to melt my face, that is as cool as hitting a ACE!
Right or wrong I am in the camp of saving my Ace discs, Could be I am storing perficetly worn discs but that is what I do. All together I think I have had 20 give or take a few. When I got my first ace back in 84 it was super cool, there was a hole in the trees that another player pointed out, so instead of up the gut with tons of trees I pitched the perfect anhyzer that landed in that old Mach 1! I did not know about the tradition of dating & signing & marking other details. Fast forward a few years & I am in Northern California playing the game we all love & by this time I had whiteness a few ACE shots & knew what to do, I had even got a second ace & added the info onto that disc. This Eagle was still in my bag & there was a water hole at the Berkeley course & you guessed it I threw it in! I went back the next day got in the water & fished it out, I could not leave it there, so every ace after that I have saved for better or worse!
Many of you know I am selling off many of the extra discs in my collection. I call them extra for a lack of a better word. I have known I had too many discs but that did not stop me from getting more! Funny thing happened once I started to reduce the number of disc I had, I gave me a different perspective on what I was doing. I just feel a little different. I am proud of these little plastic discs I have collected but also a little silly. One thing is for sure, the buying switch is turned off! It is almost a relief but it also makes me a little sad. I have always said once I start a activity I stick with it for life, like snowboarding, disc golf, playing guitar, cycling, traveling, & others things. A new feeling has come over me while selling a few very hard to find & expensive discs, but letting these disc go to a new home I have gotten the feeling of joy from others, This is very rewarding! So while I thin down the number of discs, that gives me joy ( there is that word again ) in many different ways, I have taken a hard line with myself by keeping many blocks of my collection like antiques, Wham-o & golf discs by Innova, Discraft & DGA, so if you see something you NEED now is a good time to get in contact with me!
OK! 5300 discs is a bunch!, I am building a barn, inside the barn I plan on keeping my collection but I have too much, it is time to just keep the plastic I really like & I hope that makes for a manageable storage spot! Display too! This is also going to help me defer the cost on the new recording studio I am building in said barn! I hope to find enjoyment with my music family as much as I have found with my Frisbee family!
Well after having kidney cancer & then 5 mystery spots on my lungs removed it was good to find out that the spots were not cancer! That makes me 16 months cancer free! if I can get 16 more months with no cancer popups I got a good chance of putting this behind me, It is a strange spot to be in, ( having cancer ) I can not describe what it is like, it gives a different perspictive to say the least! I plan on thinning the herd & donating the money from sales to cancer research, to many people are affected, got to do something to help, There is nothing better than being on the course with family & loved ones!
Braxton is 7 months old now! Getting to be a big kid! It is time for him & I to head out & play disc on the upper course at Skyline ! The problem is that during the wine country fires Cal-Fire set a back fire on the course, about 4 holes were effected. There was some bull dozer work as well, so the club is working to get the course back open & have it safe for everyone, Soon me & my youngest grandchild will be out during the best time of year in California to play disc, Winter!
It is always fun to meet folks with a lower PDGA number than your self! I went to Cabo on a guys fishing trip & invited Lightnin Lyle Jensen # 102, I had some other Disc Golf friends on the trip. When I made Contact with Sheryl Newland # 76 on Facebook finding out she was near by, I invited her over for breakfast. It was fun to tell Lyle we were going to have a guest over that had a lower number than himself! He was thinking " in Mexico ? "
