It is almost here and like most years people wait till the last minute to get signed up. This year is very slow, there is a competing event that is drawing several of our regular players. Not sure why there events on the same weekend so close together especially when this is our 18th year and the other event it is there 1st. The Napa Disc Golf Club has spent most all of the club money on shirts , discs and other stuff getting ready for the average 125-150 people that would normally show up to play. I would like to think that there are new faces at the course and our event will fill. So far it is giving me heartburn. What ever happens number wise it will be a fun weekend of Disc Golf!

Have not added to the blog but have added many pictures, less than 2 weeks till Vintage Cup!
Most events in the Nor-Cal series have a Pro and Am weekends. Vintage Cup is one of the last events to be both on one weekend. Not a problem if you use the Archery area and set up a second course. Problem in the winter and spring is that it is usually wet and it makes footing tuff.
The idea for this year is to make 5 or 6 tee boxes (on some of the sloppier areas) that will be made of 2X6s and plywood using either a rubber pad or upside-down carpet for footing. I have used pads like these on the east cost and they seem to work well. Even better I hope for dry weather the week leading up Less than 4 weeks away! Cool things about the Vintage Cup besides the fact that 150 Frisbee family members will get together. 1) Flying disc display... I look forward to sharing some of my collection that rarely sees the light of day. 2) Saturday evening social..... We have the social Hall so if it rains we have a place to meet, we plan on serving free Chili , and have free beer on tap, ( 2 kegs last year ) 3) Mini Putting contest...... winner takes home a new DGA mini basket! 4) Live music.....we had a few great bands last year. 5) a chance to play the temp course ....it only happens a 3 days a year. 6) Bonfire.... bring your marshmallows. 7) overall a great Raffle, fun camping and a great run event.
I have been playing guitar last few years and have a 11 song set that I have been working on with my drumming friend mike ( any bass players out there? ) I have been playing everyday getting ready, I have never played for a group before and I can really only play sitting down so I am not sure how wild it will be but I am ready. I have not been doing much practice on my golf game, my plan is to practice putting every day till the event gets here. I started on 4/1. Last year I finished 3rd in Master, my best finish but not my best score. I can hardly wait! |
